A Kiss

I’m here Standing waiting, wondering if you will show.
Such long and steady nervous steps bring me the answer I seek to know.
Are you feeling the same way too?
My mind races with questions. My heart once so steady beats erratically with anticipation of you coming around the corner and ending this speculation.
The love of my life will she stay or will she go?
I can no longer stand so I take a seat on the bench that bares two names.
Yours and mine etched in time and I can’t help but wonder will we remain the same?
It’s funny how two sets of foot prints can meet on the same path from opposite directions.
Yet here we are.
Weeks to months three years past filled with passionate kisses; kisses that I took for granted would always last.
My eyes become moist from the flurries of snow landing on my eye lids.
My stomach is in knots.
I’m staring at my watch; I’m looking at the clock.
Suddenly without warning you appear; a smile adorns your face.
As I brush the snow from my eyes I had this feeling that if my life had ended right at that moment I could have escaped this twisted fate and died a fulfilled man.

For a second all was well till the words from your lips ever so slowly fell.
Why? Why did I come here this morning?
I should have never left outside my door.

I should have known from that unfamiliar smile on your face,
a kiss was not what you came for.
